Today was our off day – we hit all the main things we wanted to do on our trip, so today was spent exploring the park and walking the trails. We had hoped to be able to rent a canoe, but for some reason they only rent on the weekends (ridiculous!). So we spent the afternoon reading and generally enjoying not being in a car.
Later in the afternoon Scott suggested heading back down into Stillwater, since we didn’t get to explore as much as we’d wanted to Monday night. There’s something special about that town. We got there a little before 5 and stopped into another of the small used book stores, then Scott spotted the shirt that Lisa wanted in a store window so we stopped there for a few minutes while they made it into a hoodie for us. At the edge of town is a staircase that takes you up the bluff, and if you make it to the top offers an incredible view of the St. Croix river – of course, we’d left the cameras in the car, but that was ok. We stopped at Leo’s Malt Shop on the way back and marveled at how peaceful everything was.
Journey back begins tomorrow…
