The Narrator

Things I do at work

So today my work partner for the past 3+ years is saying his goodbyes as he heads off to greener pastures. I’m not overly upset, because we’re still in some of the same social circles outside of work, but I will miss working with him every day and having someone with a similar sense of humor to banter back and forth with.

So in the spirit of reminiscence, I share a couple examples of things I do at work that have partly come about from the back-and-forth I’ve had with my friend over the years:

EXAMPLE 1: EMAIL REMINDERS

Subject: Kitchen Clean up at 3 PM

The apple below started as a nutritious treat. All it wanted in life was to be loved and enjoyed.

But when it was abandoned and unclaimed in the refrigerator, it went bad:

DON’T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CORRUPTION OF GOOD FOOD.

With the weekend a few short hours away, Tim’s team will take up the mantle of Kitchen Crusaders at 3 PM. Please make sure you rescue or clearly mark any innocent food you have in the refrigerator – old or unclaimed items will be junked before they can turn to the dark side.

Remember kids: Old food becomes bad food. And Bad food makes for a dangerous world.

EXAMPLE 2: THE “SPECIAL” EDITIONS

My personal favorite of our tasks is the campus newsletter I write for, compile, edit, and publish each week. My friend and then-coworker Kate and I started this years ago and never expected it to last as long or take on the proportions it has. While admittedly most of the issues I put out revolve around campus events and updates, I do try to inject some humor in each week and keep the publication fun to read. And then, every once in a while, I do a limited distribution “special edition” like the one below (in honor of what should have been our final days on Earth last December):
